There is no Shame in Being a Liberal, So Why is Obama So Embarrased?

August 9th 2008 11:56
In the world of politics one thing is for certain: your policies don't matter, your delivery is everything. When Ronald Reagan won the presidency he did not do it by winning voters over with common sense or sound reason, no, he won it by standing up for his principles and saying 'this is my policies, you better like them, because you're going to be stuck with them for the next 8 years'.

He was not ashamed of being a conservative, he got up and put it bluntly, he hurt middle income earners, gave big businesses massive tax breaks and charged the middle and lower class to pick up the slack, debt increased under him and yet he was voted for again.

There is no shame in being a liberal, right now 20% of Americans agree with McCains foreign policies yet on polls he's neck and neck with Obama. There is shame in being a conservative, there's a lot of shame, there's George Bush, one of the most detested figures in the world, there's the blunder that is the 'war on terror', there's the lies, the scandals, all that.

For gods sake Bill Clinton, the man who ended debt, the man who reduced the number of Americans on welfare to the lowest they have been in over two decades, the man who showed just a little bit of unashamed left wing passion was impeached for having sex. If you can impeach a man for having an affair then how can you not impeach a man who started two wars, brought the government into massive debt, went to war for the first time in the history of the United States without raising taxes (talk about fiscally responsible eh?) and did a bunch of other things I can't even list here without turning this into another article.

This isn't about Americans overreacting to what Bill Clinton did, mark my words, had George Bush been caught sucking Dick Cheney's dick he would not be impeached. It is not a matter of issue, it is a matter of spinning it, it's a matter of exaggerating and pushing it to the general public, making it entertaining.

Why don't Americans get up and be outraged about this? Because the democrats are too busy apologizing for George Bush and his broken policies, they are too busy saying McCain is an honorable man who loves America, they are too busy appeasing the fringes of the right in a desperate attempt to look like the party that was made for the US, yadayadayada. If there's one thing Conservatives are right about when it comes to Liberals it's this: they are too god damned starry eyed.

Obama gets up and starts with how Iran is a dangerous threat to Israel, Obama starts talking about single payer health insurance rather than true Universal health care , Obama talks about funding religious organizations and there are even rumors he'll partner up with a Republican when he runs for president.

And after all that does the right wing warm up to him? Do they say 'oh look Obama is so wonderful, he sees our point of view?' Of course not, they do what you expect them to do, they get up and accuse him of being a terrorist Muslim, of being an elitist, of being out of touch, of being the god damn Anti-Christ, claims that are entirely ridiculous but remain unchallenged.

What Obama should do, to win over the swing states, is sell himself as a Liberal. As a far left wing pot smoking, sex having, gay loving, health care giving, war ending liberal. This is what Americans want, this is what the god damn polls say, don't start with the centrist crap, now is the time to be a shameless hippy liberal.

Swing states will love that, a man of principle who is everything McCain and George Bush isn't. McCain will be destroyed because Obama's campaign will attack McCains character and expose him for who he is. They will show McCain eating cake during Hurricane Katrina, they will expose how McCain divorced his trophy wife who had been crippled after a car crash only to run off and marry a millionaire, they will show his close knit relationship with George Bush.

Obama will get up and without holding back attack, demonize and destroy the Republican party, he will paint them with broad brush strokes, he will attack each one of their closet homosexuals, each one of their pedophiles, each one of their hypocrites, he will accuse them of destroying Christianity and spitting on everything the founding fathers stood for. Doesn't matter if he's right, this isn't a game of right or wrong, this is a game of having wins, the more wins you have the better, telling the truth is an utter waste of time, Americans would rather entertain themselves by watching TV.

Either he present change or shut up, he is in the perfect position, there is no political entity that can stop him now, he is Obama, he is running against the single most unpopular politician since George W. Bush so no matter how much the media turns on him, no matter how much AIPAC does, no matter how much the Republican party does, even the Democrat party, he will be listened to, he will gain supporters and the Democrat party will wizen up and get behind him 100% the way the Republican party has gotten behind George Bush and John McCain. The radios along with Fox News will accuse him of being the anti-Christ, like they haven't already, he's not winning support being a centrist but he'll sure as hell turn the US BLUE if he were liberal.

Then Obama can get up and say 'for the longest time we Democrats have sucked balls, we've pretended we can appeal to everyone but never really could, so here I am, and I'm going to change all that, and it doesn't matter what those closet homosexual republicans think, I am going to be their president and I am going to make sure their sorry asses have health care for at least the next 8 years'.

Won't the voters just love that?

You are exactly on point. One problem is that conservatives have succeeded in framing the debate to exclude liberals. I discussed this situation in an earlier post last year.

Really Long Link

Liberals have nothing of which to be ashamed and a bit of aggressive argument to that effect would be welcomed.

Yeah, it also just occurred to me, while a republican is not quizzed over the endorsement over Ann Coulter like it's a bad thing a liberal would be attacked by the media for being endorsed by, say, Michael Moore. They are of course polar opposites, but why is an Ann Coulter endorsement a good thing wherein a Michael Moore one bad?
