Spot the Idiot
April 1st 2008 19:44
I've found 'The Sun' to be quite the newspaper... if you're an idiot. As an example let me present to you one of their articles. Keep in mind I'm not going to reproduce anything here besides the title, you can go see the article for yourself here.
The title is:
Clearly misspelled to poke fun at the Palestinian boy.
My question is, how many American kids his age could write that same sentence in a foreign language? Not necessarily Arabic or Chinese or Russian, any non-English language will do.
Heck, let's make it even easier.
How many Americans can write a word from a foreign language?
Let me make it even easier.
How many caucasians can write a word in a foreign language? Just look at it statistically and get back to me on this.
Let's just sit and think for a moment.
Anyone who considers "The Sun" to be a serious publication should ask themselves one simple quesiton. Is the sarcasm crude sarcasm warranted and has the writer of the article even back checked the facts?
If you look at it with any sort of intelligence and objectivity it would be quite obvious that boy is pretty damned smart for writing in a foreign language. While some kids his age in the first world can't even write in their native toungue this kids doing quite well with a broken education system.
Is there any more proof needed of the outright bias this article has? If you still aren't convinced then nothing can convince you. If you like to side with cowards who not only refuse to treat a story with any sort of objectivity but also are too afraid to reveal their names for fear of ridicule then by all means.

Everyone Arabs are stupid.
I'm sure the Sun would have preferred it if he was waving an anti-US slogan, but since he was protesting something as 'mundane' as his right to an education, well then, they had to make a story of it somehow right?
By focusing on the spelling of his placard, they have completely glossed over the fact that Israel is once again breaching the human rights of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories.
But never mind that, hey let's make fun of the stupid Arab trying to look western with his "backwards baseball cap" and the audacity to "wave his fist".

I'm half white, are you suggesting that I should consider that part of myself as being flawed intellectually, that in addition to that part of me being intolerant and ignorant, bordering on grossly stupid, that I should somehow expunge it from my person? It isn't going to happen and you shouldn't make assumptive comments.
Some quasi writer on the staff of a pulp raga-zine makes a calculatedly vitriolic remark and you've gone ballistic.
When I looked at the photo in question, it occurred to me that it was a set up, playing to the emotions of the viewers.
Oddly, both you and Ruby bought into the charade; each from your particular bias.
From my view point, we should boycott Sun's product's for advocating and promoting vitriolic hate speech as the sales tool of choice. And continue to support peace efforts, however messy they are at the moment.

It does not matter how many languages that kid speaks or how many languages white people can speak.
The fact is, that 'newspaper' was ridiculing a small child who who actually has a genuine grievance. And making Arabs look stupid in the process.

Exactly why Ruby, I suggested boycotting Sun's products, fussing at them will not stop their BS, cutting of their cash stream will. Raven

yet another example of terrible smugness . . . where do you find all these writers who are so very pleased with themselves? haha

Speaking only one language has nothing to do with being caucasian. Most white Europeans from Scandinavia, Holland, Germany etc all speak English (and often additional languages) as their second language.
I recommend criticising "English speakers" instead
Anyone who speaks English has had their worldly travels made easy for them by American cultural dominance. Thanks to the USA, I have most of the internet available to me without needing to do any translation, huzzah!
It's a bit sad that I can't speak Japanese or Mandarin.
But when you think about it, but there is so much information that needs to be stuffed down children's throats. It ONLY makes sense to learn a second language if it will be advantageous at some stage in life.
At what stage in their insulated lives will Americans or Australians need another language?
If you're Arabic, however, and you want to be successful in international business or educated overseas, you have to learn English or French. That's why languages are compulsory in Middle Eastern Schools but optional in American and Australian schools.

On the upside of this, by speaking two languages (or even trying to) you'll all live a longer life?
Yep that's right, researchers proved that you not only live longer, but those who are bi-lingual suffer from lower rates of mental decay illnesses - like Alzheimers - and early mental decay with things like Dementia... mind you nothing will account for a bad western diet, okay?
So go ahead and mispell everything in your new language, people should everywhere ... you'll stay sharper for longer... I just can't remember where I read it...

English is not my native language, but I would have written: "...in their native TONGUE, this kid IS doing quite well...".
But it was quite an interesting post anyway...
