Look Both Ways

A few years ago the bad guys were the communists, now it's Muslims. While I don't know how the US treated suspected 'communists' I do know Saddam being the USA's ally at the time would blame everything on communists. Absolutely everything, from the price of tomatoes to MTV (if he could that is).
Enter the modern times, when the cold war is supposed to be left behind us and it appears we've made a wonderful 180 back into god damn paranoia.
Some people can go on a killing spree and get away without being branded a terrorist, others can conspire to blow up a Mosque and have the worlds experts back him up and say he's just depressed or insane or something (we all know thats a perfectly logical explanation, he was just insane with hate, not a terrorist). People can be sent off to secret torture camps yet it isn't in the name of terror, no one is being terrorized, it's all for the best. Isn't it?
What else can we blame on our evil fundamentalist Moslem enemy? Abuse of women? From their point of view it's westerners who abuse women. It works both ways, someone can find an extreme circumstance of a man abusing a woman in Afghanistan and just brand the entire nation as backwards, likewise someone in Afghanistan will read about isolated incidents in the West and brand the entire West as evil.
Some say they are violent and lawless, they'll look back and think the same and they have the statistics to prove it. It seems as though we are a hypocritical bunch, while we like to point and blame we never look at ourselves, it's like were immune to doing wrong yet we do as much wrong as they do. We just turn a blind eye and pretend it never happens here.
Call them backwards terrorists, they'll call you backwards infidels, both ironically mean the same thing. That neither society is perfect and neither society wants to correct itself, no, it wants to correct the other one. How does it do that? By creating wars, apparently wars are the end of all violence.
