Guess Which States in the US Have The Lowest Literacy Rates?
October 6th 2007 17:30
You might be wondering where the 30% support George Bush has is coming from, no doubt from those ill informed. ill informed not because of a liberal media bias or the inability for Fox to really show how evil liberals are, simply because the ill informed can't actually read.
The deep south of the United States has the lowest literacy rate in the US, Mississipi being the worst with 1 in 3 adults being functionally illiterate. Alabama, Florida and South Carolina are not far behind at an illteracy rate of ~25%. Ouch.
Of course this is in sharp contrast to pretty much every other first world country on the map, definitely in contrast to the more (so-called) 'liberal' states and to add insult to injury... well there isn't much more to say, is there?
While I don't want to turn this into too much of a political debate it would be of interest to note that Hispanics by and large are in fact literate, add to that they open businesses at a much faster rate than Americans and you begin to get the picture that the same people claiming that these Hispanics are uneducated and a burden to the United States also happen to be of those people who can barely read and write.
I guess it's just ironic justice, the unfounded accusations against culturally different people has little to no founding though the accusation that the white southern man is becoming increasingly dumber is actually true.
Damned Liberally Biased Source!
