Fox News Has Highest Viewership Therefore Most Americans Are Conservatives? Wait a Minute
December 20th 2007 14:08
Almost all of Fox News' dedicated viewers think all the other news channels have a 'liberal bias' and/or are 'run by atheists' therefore it puts off the majority of Americans off, so they instead go to Fox News for their 'unbiased' news.
Wait, there's a problem here, if the entire media is liberal save for Fox News (which is either 'fair and balanced' or conservative depending on which Fox viewing nut you're talking to) then the numbers are not counted fairly. If it's 'us' vs. 'them' then 'them' are a collective total of each individual part while 'us' is the collective total of, well, us.
If we are to count the political persuasion of most Americans based on the news channels they turn to and we say that Fox News is the only real 'fair and balanced' channel which attracts the conservative viewers then we have to count all the competing channels collective viewer ship to that of Fox's collective viewer ship.
From Wikipedia (you can cross check the results if you believe Wikipedia has a liberal bias of some sort).
So these numbers indicate that three liberal news channels (NBC, CBS and ABC) had a collective viewer ship of 16 million viewers while the conservative (or 'fair and balanced') news channel only had 7.3 million viewers. Surely if the majority of Americans are in fact conservative and don't buy into liberal propaganda the sum of the liberal news channels would be less than that of the only conservative (or 'fair and balanced') channel on air.
Fox News is in fact a monopoly, no more than that. It is the only channel completely dedicated to warping truths to make conservatives feel better. While other channels can at worst be argued to be catering to liberals in the same manner or at best to be actuallly reporting news with minimal bias they still end up competing with each other for viewers because they are in fact representing the same viewer demographic. The supposed 'minority' demographic actually out numbers Fox.

In 2004, the gain in ratings became more apparent. In September, Fox News Channel's ratings for its broadcast of the Republican National Convention beat those of all three broadcast networks. During President Bush's address, Fox News notched 7.3 million viewers nationally, while NBC, CBS, and ABC scored ratings of 5.9, 5.0, and 5.1, respectively.
