Bring me Heaven, Bring me Hell
January 17th 2008 13:33
What is it that makes people think they have a guaranteed pass into heaven? What is it that makes someone say 'I will go to heaven because I believe such and such'? On whose authority? Gods? Did god tell you? It could be more readily argued that you're lost in your own delusional world than god speaking to you.
Fact of the matter is god did not say you're going to heaven or I'm going to heaven. At best god set down the criteria to follow to get into heaven but has made no guarantees you will follow that criteria as he intended. The question of faith transcends blind belief, simply saying 'well I believe this so there' does not get you anywhere, however saying it with your heart and acting upon it is true faith.
A Christian tells me that I'm going to hell because I have not accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. My counter to that argument? None. I don't argue if I'm going to heaven or hell for believing this or that. God didn't say I'm going to hell and he didn't say I'm going to heaven, heck, he didn't say if Hitler is going to hell or if Saddam is going to hell. I'm not going to suddenly start arguing the merits of evangelical Christianity to prove my point, there is no point to prove, arguing is just an exercise in making myself feel better.
I can only guarantee myself hell but I can't guarantee myself heaven. That is my personal beliefs. I can easily let my desires run wild and commit sin after sin and know I'll go to hell. Or I could take control of my life and do everything in my own power to make God love me enough to send me to heaven. Will I be guaranteed heaven? No. I don't decide, God does and he is infinitely wise.
Now I understand some people may have decided heaven is theirs for the taking because they believe this or that. Honestly, belief and faith are frivolous things. They can be made up or altered or changed. Your opinions and above all, your actions speak louder than your self proclaimed 'faith'.
If you say you believe Jesus Christ is your lord and saviour, then go ahead and disregard or alter everything he has said that you don't like hearing then you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour. You fail at believing in your own beliefs, you don't believe in that Jesus you claim to, you believe in your own personal Jesus who like a bad friend tells you to do and say stupid things that makes you feel better.

For the Sake of Argument
My Apologetics
This is what I have described as the Gold Pass to Heaven attitude. Membership guarantees salvation.
It is basically an invention of certain Protestants that have taken the concept of predestination to an extreme. Predestination meaning that God knows all, so therefore he know who will be going to heaven and hell before they are conceived. Therefore God is producing people knowing that they will burn in hell. The modern twist it just an extension of this concept designed to justify the existence of small New Bible based fundamentalist religions to themselves.
The NEW religion lives off the motto that they are saved but no one else is. So join us and be saved or ignore us and burn. Jack Chick is a master of this idea and loves to promote it.
Most mainstream religion have rejected this form of extremism as being against the concept that people should chose a religion because they have freely chosen to do so. Not because they were threatened with eternal damnation.
