Boycotting the Olympics...

March 30th 2008 13:53
Is an act of hypocrisy.

To only make yourself feel better you have to wonder, what are you doing? Is it truly for the greater good or is just for yourself? I dare say those who want to boycott the Olympics couldn't survive a week boycotting Chinese exports.

If you want China to address its human rights violations through peaceful protest then by all means, but protest, don't just say 'I'm boycotting the Olympics therefore I am'. Boycotting the Olympics is hypocritial and counter productive at best.

So you like the idea of genocide in Burma, Tibet and Darfur?? Of course we as Australians need to show off to the world how rich we are and can win sporting events due to our incredible resources (like the AIS). Those who have a conscience will sit this one out those who want to do some flag waving can wave like there is no tomorrow - for people like you there really isn't (though I bet your the first to jump up and down about Mugabe or Japanese Whaling)

Also try to buy local produce, good for your economy bad for the oppressive foreign countries corbin =)

Anonymous, I don't really see how boycotting the olympics is going to do anything. People are happy to boycott the olympics, they can just use their TV sets (made in China) to watch another TV show. My point is boycotting the olympics won't have an effect on the Chinese government. If you want to be noble you won't simply 'sit this one out' you'll boycott china.

Boycotting the Olympic games is just meh, it's hardly going to make a dent.

At this juncture I do not believe a Boycott of the Olympics proper will do much.

Though I think talk about boycotting the opening ceremony would make the Chinese apprehensive.

However if there is a blood bath like Tienamen square that I would fully support the boycott.

I think there more well organised action directed at the Chianese Government over this one, the better.
